It’s Christmas year round for people experiencing the gift of new abilities. Horses and Therapists team together at participating facilities to offer treatment and therapeutic activities to help improve life skills. Walking, talking, socializing, strengthening muscles, developing relationships, organizing space and tasks, building a foundation for balance - these opportunities are presents in every therapy session!

The Right Step Sponsorship Fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit corporation formed to offer scholarships for Equine Assisted Activities (EAA) to individuals with disabilities who have no insurance and can not afford treatment. Details and eligibility are available on our application form. The fund also periodically sponsors Professional Credentialed Therapists who complete and publish research into EAA. More research will equate to improved insurance coverage and less need for Scholarship assistance.

THE PURPOSE OF THE RIGHT STEP SPONSORSHIP FUND, INC.

1. Provide Individual Sponsorships to Needy Individuals with Disabilities
  • Individual must have a physician’s prescription stating number of prescribed sessions as applicable and have a signed release for equestrian activities
  • Individual must be accepted for services by an Equine Assisted Activities or Therapy Approved Provider Center in Michigan, agrees to assist with sponsorship fundraising, and provides an outline of their treatment costs (treatment costs must be reasonable and customary for the State of Michigan)
  • Individual must complete an insurance verification form demonstrating lack of insurance coverage
  • Individual must meet financial need based on percentage of annual government poverty guidelines outlined in application
  • Individual must request an amount of sponsorship based on the above information
  • Sponsorship awards will be given up to $1000 per individual per application

2. Support Therapist Studies into EAA
  • Applicant must be a professional therapist licensed and credentialed in the State of Michigan
  • Applicant must have additional training in EAA as evidenced by Registered Therapist status through PATH Intl., OR Hippotherapy Clinical Specialty Certification, OR certified therapeutic riding or driving instructor.
  • Research Study must focus on Equine Assisted Activities
  • Applicant must outline real costs associated with completion of the study
  • Applicants with an approved study will be awarded sponsorship only after the study is completed and published
  • Study Sponsorships will be given up to $500 per Research Study
